Thiersee passion plays
According to historical records, the passion plays in the municipality of Thiersee date back to the year 1695. The plays were first publicly performed on a summer stage in Vorderthiersee below the St. Margaretha parish church. Today, the Thiersee passion play house, built in 1926, is located right on the shores of the Thiersee lake. Since 1955, 10 years after the turmoil of World War II, around 250 contributing ensemble members reaching across many generations tell of the life, suffering, and death of Jesus Christ with these passion plays that take place every 6 years.
