Culture in Kufstein

Culture in Kufstein represents a varied programme throughout the year – ranging from summer open-air concerts at the Festung Kufstein to theatre performances, readings and exhibitions held in contemporary cultural and event venues across the city.

One of Kufstein’s most distinctive landmarks is the Heldenorgel at the fortress. Its daily performance has shaped the city’s soundscape for decades. As the largest outdoor organ in the world, it is played every day at 12.00 pm. From July to August, the Heldenorgel concert also takes place at 6.00 pm. When its sounds echo through the city, both locals and visitors regularly pause to listen.

Kufstein’s cultural life extends beyond the city itself. The surrounding communities of the Kufsteinerland also contribute to the region’s cultural diversity with concerts, theatre productions, traditional festivals and regional events.

Regional cultural highlights

Well beyond the region, the Tiroler Festspiele Erl as well as the Passionsspiele Erl and the Passionsspiele Thiersee are widely renowned. While the Tiroler Festspiele Erl take place annually, the Passion Plays are staged every six years and attract visitors from across the German-speaking region.
