Lake Pfrillsee: A small forest lake above Kufstein

Lake Pfrillsee is situated west of Kufstein in the Thierberg Lakes area and is one of the smaller, quieter bathing lakes in the region. Covering an area of around 1.8 hectares, with a depth of up to 8.2 metres and situated at an altitude of approximately 612 metres above sea level, it is a manageable forest lake for anyone seeking nature and tranquillity.

The lake is privately owned but freely accessible and is ideal for swimming, walking and a short break. However, those looking for extensive facilities, restaurants or a lively atmosphere will find this is not the place for them. On the other hand, anyone wishing to discover a natural lake above Kufstein will find Pfrillsee a peaceful spot for a simple break in the countryside.

Swimming at Pfrillsee

Lake Pfrillsee is freely accessible and is particularly suitable for those looking for a peaceful, natural way to cool off. There are no large-scale facilities, catering options or extensive sunbathing areas here.

Around the lake there are simple grassy areas and shady spots that are ideal for a short break. The bathing area is unspoilt, so the ground in the water can be a bit muddy. We therefore recommend wearing water shoes.

If you’re planning a traditional day at the beach with plenty of amenities, lifeguards and facilities, larger lakes such as Hechtsee offer a suitable alternative.

Strolling and relaxing by the lake

A visit to Lake Pfrillsee is well worth combining with a short walk. This small forest lake is compact enough to explore without taking up too much time. If you don’t fancy a swim, you can stroll along the shore or use the lake as a peaceful stop-off point during an outing in the region.

The area on the southern shore is particularly interesting. From there, a beautiful view opens up over Kufstein and the side valleys.

Getting there, access and practical tips

The easiest way to reach Lake Pfrillsee is from Kufstein towards Thiersee. An important starting point is the ‘Marblinger Höhe’ forest car park. Parking here is free. From there, the path continues on foot to the lake.

There is no official car park directly by the water and no developed infrastructure. Anyone coming to swim should therefore only bring the bare essentials. Comfortable shoes for the short walk and water shoes for the natural surface in the water may be a good idea.
